Riyan Parag has become the talk of the town for his remarkable performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Facing criticism for his previous poor form, Parag made a stunning comeback, proving his detractors wrong.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) finished the season as the second runner-up after a defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2. Parag, who had struggled last season with just 78 runs in 7 matches, turned his fortunes around this year.

The Assam batter, who made his debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2019, bought for 20 Lakhs, reflected on his journey in an exclusive interview with PTI.

I had a lot of rough seasons, says Riyan Parag

"The biggest thing that I've taken away from the last season is that believing in yourself actually works out, because a lot of people say a lot of different things, whether it's negative, whether it's positive. But at the end of the day, what matters is what you think about yourself and that is what I've been for," he said.

Parag's previous IPL seasons were challenging, with runs tallying 160, 86, 93, 183, and 78 respectively.

"I had a lot of rough seasons, more than nice ones, and I feel having that constant belief in yourself, that you actually belong at this level, that you can actually do things that you had dreamt of, has been a constant and that will stay throughout," he added.

He emphasised his mindset change, saying, "What you saw this year in the IPL is how I play domestic cricket. I take the onus upon myself, I take the expectations, I take the burden upon myself to deliver and that is why I play the best."

Parag ended this season on a high note, achieving his career-best performance with 573 runs, including an unbeaten 84*, and four half-centuries at a strike rate of 149.22.
