Riyan Parag was the star of the show for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 and emerged as the leading run-scorer for his side, scoring runs in crunch situations. This was a breakthrough season for the right-hander and he badly needed one, as his previous IPL seasons were well below-par and calls for his removal were loud from all corners.

The youngman though answered his critics brilliantly this season, and did exactly what he has been doing in domestic cricket for Assam over the years. Now, in an exclusive interaction with PTI, the 22-year-old has exuded confidence in his abilities and added that selectors would pick him eventually if he keeps performing consistently.

"At some point, you'll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I'm going to play for India. I don't really care when."

The right-handed batter also added that when he was confident of playing for India when he was not even scoring runs and it is his belief and there is nothing arrogant about it and his plan was always to play for India since he started playing cricket along with his father as a 10-year-old.

"When I was not scoring runs — I said this in an (earlier) interview as well that I am going to play for India. That is me believing in myself. That is not me being arrogant. That is what my plan was with my dad (former Railways and Assam player Parag Das), when I started playing cricket when I was like 10-years-old. We (a joint project) were going to play for India regardless of anything."

The Rajasthan Royals batter also added that it doesn't matter whether he gets selected for India on the next tour or after one year, that is not in his hands and it is selector's job and he would like to concentrate on what he can do.

"Whether it's the next tour, whether it's a tour in six months, whether it's a tour in one year... I don't really put my thought behind when I should play. That is the selector's job, that is other people's job," Riyan said.

India are scheduled to play against Zimbabwe after the T20 World Cup 2024, and there are good chances that Riyan Parag will get a place in that squad after his stellar IPL and consistent domestic performances.
