Sanju Samson is at loggerheads with Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) after he was omitted from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad over disciplinary action. Meanwhile, Samson’s father, Viswanath has accused KCA of conspiring against his son and urged Sanju to leave the state to safeguard his future.
The drama around Sanju Samson’s absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy refuses to end. The batter was omitted from the squad after missing the mandatory training session.
He was subsequently snubbed from the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy squad. Moreover, the Kerala Cricket Board hit out at the opener, saying he only has himself to blame.
Sanju Samson's father gets emotional as he accused KCA
Amid this, Sanju Samson’s father Viswanath has hit back at KCA. While talking to Sports Tak, he said Samson’s career is not safe in Kerala as the state board is conspiring against him. He fears his son being made the scapegoat and blamed for the board’s wrongdoings.
"I knew about six months ago that they are planning something against Sanju. KCA were plotting things in a way that he left Kerala. We couldn't fight with them. There are directors there. You can't talk back to them, you can't challenge them. My child is not safe. They will put the blame on Sanju for everything and people will believe them too," Viswanath said.
Moreover, an emotional Viswanath urged Sanju Samson to leave Kerala and appealed to other state boards to welcome him.
"So I really want that my son stops playing cricket for Kerala. If any state wants to give my son a chance, saying 'Sanju, come and play for us', I am willing to make that appeal. He has devoted 30 years of his life to cricket, but he is being isolated now. I have had enough; want to get him out of this association (KCA)," he added.
Will Samson’s absence cost India in Champions Trophy?
Sanju Samson’s resurgence in white ball cricket had the fans convinced that he would get picked in India’s Champions Trophy squad. However, many fans are perplexed by his exclusion. This wicket-keeper batter had a breakout season in 2024 when he accumulated 436 runs from 12 T20Is, including 3 centuries.
He was simply berserk while opening the innings and showed immense intent. Considering the form he's been in, Samson should have definitely been considered for going into the side. The selectors instead have selected Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is yet to receive a game for the ODI side.
