The iconic Wankhede Stadium turned 50 years old last week and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) hosted a grand celebration featuring some of the city's biggest cricket heroes.

Wankhede Stadium enters Guinness World Record book
Recently, MCA announced that Wankhede Stadium has scripted a Guinness world record of forming the largest sentence using cricket balls. The stadium officials used 14,505 white and red leather balls to form a sentence which read ‘Fifty Years Of Wankhede Stadium.’
Moreover, to inspire the next generation of cricketers, the cricket balls used in the record will be donated to schools, clubs, and NGOs across Mumbai.
The record was made on the day of Wankhede's first international match, the first Test ever between India and the West Indies played from January 23-29, 1975. The MCA dedicated the achievement to the late Eknath Solkar, who scored a century in that match, along with other departed Mumbai cricketers who made significant contributions to the sport.
Rohit Sharma gives huge promise for Champions Trophy
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma vowed to take the trophy back home as he addressed fans at a 50-year celebration event in Mumbai ahead of the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025. He added that the team would try to do everything in its power to win another ICC trophy and bring it back to Wankhede Stadium. Team India held a special celebration at the iconic venue when they won the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
