Mumbai Indians (MI) are getting ready to play a crucial match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025. The winner of this game will move on to the final to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). MI is one of the most successful teams in IPL history, having won the title five times.
Even though MI had a rough start this season, losing four of their first five games, they bounced back and made it to the playoffs. They recently beat Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator match to stay in the competition.
Ashwin Takes a Dig at MI’s Luck Before Qualifier
Before this important game, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Ravichandran Ashwin made an interesting comment. He said that MI always seems to get lucky in key moments.
Ashwin remembered a match from 2018 when he was captain of Punjab (then called Kings XI Punjab). He said,
"I've seen one thing with Mumbai Indians, every time. In 2018, I was leading Punjab against MI. They were 80-odd for five wickets in 13 overs. They weren't anywhere in the game. Suddenly, the floodlights lost current and we had a 20-minute break. And when the game resumed, Kieron Pollard went ballistic and they went to smash around 180-200 runs."
Ashwin jokingly added, "MI always gets lucky. Of course, you earn your luck. But MI always get lucky. We have to find out how they're getting so lucky."
This year again, MI started poorly but turned things around with a strong winning streak. Now they’re just one win away from another IPL final, and based on their history, they know how to perform in these high-pressure knockout games.
That gives them an edge going into the match against PBKS, which will decide who faces RCB in the final on June 3.
