Virat Kohli has been defended by former Indian fast bowler Atul Wassan for his remarks on Musheer Khan during RCB’s first qualifier match against Punjab Kings this IPL 2025 season. The legendary Indian batter once again became a subject of controversy when a stump mic caught him mocking young Musheer when the latter arrived to the crease during the Punjab Kings innings.
As Musheer took guard, Kohli was heard saying “yeh toh paani pilaata hai” while stationed at first slip. The clip of the same instantly went viral across social media, with many fans perceiving Kohli’s remarks as a sledging attempt on the young PBKS batter.
Atul Wassan says Virat Kohli “likes to win”
While speaking on the ‘Bails and Banter’ show and as quoted by the Hindustan Times, Atul Wassan defended Virat Kohli for his latest sledging attempt on Musheer Khan. The former Indian fast bowler said that Kohli has a competitive nature, and he would like to win even against his own baby.
Wassan added that sledging is perfectly fine in the sport if players are not crossing the line. He said:
“Virat has a competitive nature; even if he plays with his own baby, he would like to win. One should not feel bad about it. When you are playing the game, consider yourself equal, and don't expect an inch, nor give an inch. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. If someone is doing it within the line, it's fine. Sledging is a mixture of sarcasm, wit and being obnoxious.”
It is worth noting that Virat Kohli gifted one of his bats to Musheer Khan earlier this IPL 2025 season after an RCB vs PBKS game.
Nonetheless, Virat Kohli will now be seen alongside the rest of his RCB teammates taking field at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium for the final. He is currently one of the leading contenders to bag the ‘Purple Cap’, having piled up 614 runs in 14 innings at an average of 55.81.
