Former Indian captain Anjum Chopra believes that Harleen Deol will be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming WPL 2026 auction. He expressed surprise that the Gujarat Giants decided to release her.

Speaking on JioStar’s ‘Most Wanted: TATA WPL 2026 Auction’ programme, Anjum said that Harleen has the kind of skills that every franchise looks for.

Harleen Deol tipped to have a big payday in WPL auction

According to Anjum Chopra, Indian batters with leadership potential are in high demand, and Harleen Deol fits that profile well.

He also added that teams will be keen to target her along with Deepti Sharma, as strong Indian players are the backbone of any successful WPL team.

"I am surprised Gujarat Giants released Harleen Deol. She's a multi-talented Indian player who can also bowl a bit, and I hope she develops her bowling skills further. She'll command good interest in the auction. Along with Deepti Sharma, she will be one Indian player every franchise will target because teams want strong Indian batters and potential leadership options," Chopra said.

Harleen Deol’s WPL numbers back Anjum’s confidence. In 20 WPL matches, she has scored 482 runs at an average of 30.12 and a strike rate of 115.58, including two half-centuries.

Her form in the last season was particularly impressive. She scored 232 runs in nine matches at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of over 120.

Deol's international record in T20Is also adds to her value. Harleen Deol has scored 298 runs in 19 innings for India and has also picked up six wickets.

The WPL auction will be held on November 27

Meanwhile, the WPL 2026 mega-auction is scheduled to take place on November 27 in New Delhi, with proceedings starting at 3:30 PM.

A total of 277 players are set to go under the hammer, competing for 73 available slots across five franchises. Out of these, 50 slots are for Indian players, while 23 spots are reserved for overseas cricketers.

The marquee set will feature big international stars like Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh, Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Alyssa Healy, Amelia Kerr, Meg Lanning, and Laura Wolvaardt. There are 19 players in the highest base-price bracket of ₹50 lakh.

With teams looking to build strong and balanced squads, Harleen Deol is expected to be a hot pick in the auction.
