The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction is set to take place next month, and the buzz has already started for the fourth edition of the tournament. Ahead of the mega auction, eight players were shortlisted to headline the marquee list and they will be the first ones to go under the hammer.

Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Alyssa Healy, Amelia Kerr, Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh, and Laura Wolvaardt will hog the limelight as they will be in the marquee list of players. In this article, we analyse the top 3 players from the list who can fetch the highest amount in the auction.

1) Meg Lanning

Surprisingly, the Delhi Capitals released their captain, Meg Lanning, ahead of the mega auction. The Australian great took the team to three successive finals, but each time they failed to cross the hurdle. As a result, the captain was released, but it seems Lanning has taken it personally and has already taken the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) by storm.

(Lanning in WBBL 2025)

  • In just 4 matches, Lanning has taken the league by storm and has racked up 288 runs in four matches, with a strike rate of 163.63. She has been outstanding for the Melbourne Stars and looks to be in the form of her life.
  • Her experience, combined with her winning mentality, makes her a great choice in T20s, and teams will look to target her in the mega auction, and don’t be surprised if she fetches the highest amount.

Teams that can target her

The UP Warriorz have the highest purse in the mega auction, as they had released all their players, barring one. The team needs a solid captaincy option, and who better than Lanning, the multiple time T20 World Cup winner. Also, Gujarat Giants will look to get her in the auction, as they, too, need a captain.

2) Deepti Sharma

For the UP Warriorz, Deepti Sharma had a disappointing outing last year, and she was released from the squad. However, the redemption arc came during the Women’s World Cup, where she was crowned as the Player of the Tournament.

What works in Deepti’s favour is the fact that she can contribute with both the bat and ball, and is one of the best all-rounders in the modern game.

Teams that can target Deepti

The Gujarat Titans have so far retained only two Australian players - Ash Gardner and Beth Mooney, and the team will aim to strengthen their side by going after a world-class spin bowler, and Deepti could be the solution to their big issue. She can even bat at number 6 for them, and their all-rounders issue could be solved.

3) Amelia Kerr

The New Zealand star was a revelation for Mumbai Indians last season, as they won the WPL title for the second time in three seasons. She was a key figure for them with the ball, and hence, the decision to release her was surprising.

(Kerr in WPL 2025)

Teams that could target Kerr

RCB’s bowling was one of their weaknesses last season, and they could target Amelia Kerr to solve their issues. Also, the Warriorz will go after her, especially after releasing Deepti Sharma, who was their key figure.
