Nothing is going right for the Indian team in the ongoing Test match against South Africa in Guwahati. The team needs an improbable 549 runs to level the 2-match series, and if that was not their biggest concern, then pace bowler Mohammed Siraj’s injury has deepened their woes on Day 4 of the second Test.

Siraj gives injury scare to Indian team

The pacer injured his shoulder during the last session of the day, and was taken off the field as the Indian side sweat hard on his fitness. The incident occurred when Tristan Stubbs smashed a Nitish Kumar Reddy delivery towards the deep square leg region and Siraj put in a diving effort to stop the ball.

In the process, he hurt his shoulder as the fast bowler looked in some pain and was taken aside for medical assistance. At first, Siraj didn’t get up as the Indian seamer was in discomfort, but he was quickly taken away as Devdutt Padikkal came in as a substitute fielder. Luckily for India, Siraj came back towards the end of the South African innings, and he also dropped a dolly to give respite to Stubbs.

Siraj's no so impressive performance in Guwahati

The wicket in Guwahati certainly had something for the pacers, as Marco Jansen ripped through the Indian batting order. However, the Indian pacers, including Siraj, had an off-game. In the first South African innings, Siraj looked out of touch as he gave away 106 runs and only took 2 wickets as they posted 489 runs.

Interestingly, captain Rishabh Pant hardly showed trust in Siraj’s bowling in the second innings as the pacer only bowled 5 overs and gave away 19 runs. With India’s bowling done and dusted, Siraj has picked up 6 wickets in two matches, with an average of 29.
