From Wednesday, November 26, the 18th edition of BCCI's premier T20 event, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is all set to kickstart across four venues in India. 38 teams are all set to lock horns across 141 matches to win the prestigious trophy.
In the latest events, Baroda cricket has received a massive boost as Hardik Pandya is set to play most of the games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Notably, the star Indian all-rounder, who has been out of action since his injury in the Asia Cup 2025, is all set to return to competitive cricket.
Pandya has not played a single game since August and was also snubbed for the upcoming ODI series vs South Africa at home.
"He has not yet joined the squad, but we expect him to play the majority of the games. His presence always provides a big boost to the squad," a PTI report quoted Baroda Head coach.
Hardik Pandya to prove match-fitness
Notably, India's squad for the T20I series against South Africa isn't out yet, and Pandya remains in contention. However, the right-handed batter needs to prove his match readiness, and the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be a great platform for the MI captain to impress the selectors and make his India comeback in December 2025.
Further, the management want Pandya to regain full fitness at the earliest because of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The prestigious T20I event will take place in India in February, and they want Hardik Pandya to be fully fit for that event.
Talking about Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Baroda are all set to start their campaign on Wednesday against Bengal. However, it is not clear whether Hardik will be available for selection from the first match or not.
