Pakistan cricket are facing one of its most challenging periods in recent history, with performances on the field steadily declining and administrative instability off it.

Former Prime Minister and legend Imran Khan has now openly criticised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, holding him responsible for what he describes as the “destruction” of cricket in the country.

Imran Khan Calls Out PCB Chairman

Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023, expressed his views through his sister Aleema Khanum, who met him recently at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. According to Aleema, Imran drew a parallel between Naqvi’s handling of cricket and the broader state of affairs in the country.

“The way Mohsin Naqvi destroyed Pakistan cricket, Asim Munir is destroying Pakistan," Imran Khan said in his message as quoted by First Post.

The remarks come at a time when Pakistan cricket is struggling both domestically and internationally. It is important to note that PCB’s latest central contracts list for 2025-26 season failed to include a single player in the top category, reflecting a lack of star performers capable of turning matches in Pakistan’s favour.

Moreover, the country’s rankings in all formats have seen a significant drop in recent years.

Recently, PCB held a three-hour crisis meeting in Lahore to address the national teams’ alarming decline, including the men’s, women’s and Shaheens (A) squads.

Participants reflected several key issues: frequent changes in players and coaching staff, reduced bilateral series with other nations and the controversial closure of the National Cricket Academy, which has long been vital for nurturing young talent.

It is important to note that the instability within PCB’s leadership has also been a major concern. Since 2021, the board has seen four different chairmen, Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi, Zaka Ashraf, and now Mohsin Naqvi.
