Bangladesh are gearing up for the Asia Cup 2025, which kicks off on September 9 and runs until September 28 in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will be played in the fast-paced Twenty20 International (T20I) format.
As preparations ramp up, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is leaning towards keeping the same jersey the team wore in their recent white-ball series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This decision comes after players reportedly requested to retain the current kit, which they believe has brought them luck.
Bangladesh Keep Faith In Red Jersey
According to reports from bdcrictime, the team’s current jersey is a dark-red shirt with green patterns on the shoulders, paired with dark green trousers. The players have dubbed it their “lucky jersey” after securing back-to-back T20I series wins in this outfit.
Initially, BCB considered introducing a brand-new design for the Asia Cup, but the strong preference from players has led them to continue with the existing look. Manufacturers have already been instructed to reproduce the kit in time for the tournament.
On Friday last week, Bangladesh also announced their squad for the Asia Cup. The same team will first play a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands as preparation. Wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das will continue as captain after leading Bangladesh to historic back-to-back series victories earlier this year.
One of the big surprises in the squad is the return of Nurul Hasan, who hasn’t played a T20I for Bangladesh since the 2022 T20 World Cup. On the other hand, experienced all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been left out, while Soumya Sarkar has only been named among the standbys. Former skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is also missing from the side.
Bangladesh have been placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka. They will open their campaign on September 11 against Hong Kong, face Sri Lanka on September 13, and finish their group stage matches against Afghanistan. Group A features India, Pakistan, Oman, and hosts UAE.
