Test cricket is not just about technique and temperament anymore. It is passion, pride and sometimes, pure chaos. And if you tuned into the third Test at Lord’s between England and India, you would know exactly what we mean.

Alyssa Healy Feels Virat Kohli’s Presence Could Have Changed The Game

Tensions flared, tempers flew and players were in each other’s faces like it was a street fight disguised as a cricket match. From Mohammed Siraj’s aggressive send-offs to Ben Stokes bowling marathon spells and Ravindra Jadeja getting into stare-downs, it felt less like a Test and more like a pressure cooker waiting to explode.

And in the middle of all that drama, one big name was sorely missed: Virat Kohli.

Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, Aussie cricketer Alyssa Healy nailed what every cricket romantic was feeling.

“It made me miss Virat Kohli at the Lord's Test & in this Test series against England. He would have absolutely thrived in that situation and that hostile environment to save the Test match for India,” she said speaking to Willow Talk.

That is the thing about Kohli as he doesn’t shy away from the heat, he walks into it with a grin. In a match where every wicket was followed by a sledge, where every stare had a story, Kohli would have felt right at home.

Kohli Loves The Fire

We have seen it before. Lord’s in 2018. Perth in 2018. Edgbaston in 2021. Give Virat Kohli a hostile crowd, chirpy fielders and a bit of needle and he will give you a masterclass in grit and guts. But not this time.

Earlier this year during IPL 2025, Kohli made the emotional call to retire from Test cricket. No farewell series, no grand send-off. Just a quiet goodbye from red-ball cricket. And as India’s batting folded under pressure at Lord’s chasing 193, fans couldn’t help but wonder what if King Kohli had been there?

India Could Have Used That Presence

Jadeja fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 61, but wickets kept tumbling around him. Rahul tried, Bumrah, Siraj hung in but the fight felt incomplete. The body was there, but the heartbeat was missing.

Amidst all this, Healy’s comments weren’t just about skill. They were about presence. Kohli, with his aura, his energy, his knack for turning chaos into control would have been the perfect man for that moment.

He might not wear the whites anymore, but Virat Kohli is still the unofficial voice of Indian Test cricket. His absence is felt in the dressing room, in the stands and clearly, even in rival camps.
