It was a clean win for India in the Bangladesh vs India Super 4 clash on September 24. India won the match by 41 runs after bundling Bangladesh out for just 127 runs while chasing 169. The victory came exactly as Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav had planned. After the game, Suryakumar explained how he wanted to bat first on the unusual Dubai pitch despite losing the toss.

SKY speaks on the crucial batting approach!

Speaking to reporters, Suryakumar Yadav shared that he knew how the pitch would behave in the second innings, so he wanted to bat first and set the pace. Even though Bangladesh chose to bowl after winning the toss, the plan remained the same.

"Actually, we didn't get to bat first in this tournament, that too in a crucial game. I think we batted first against Oman. It was important to bat first in the Super 4s. We played here on 14th where the wicket was on the slower side in the second innings. That's exactly what happened today as well as there was no dew," Suryakumar said.

SKY on the jumbled up batting lineup

India shuffled their batting lineup in a way that even cricket experts found puzzling. Suryakumar himself was not seen at number 3, while Sanju Samson was pushed further down the order. Hardik Pandya came in before Tilak Verma, and Shivam Dube was also sent up the order. Suryakumar later justified the changes, saying they were made with strategy in mind.

"I think looking at their bowling line-up, they had a left-arm spinner and a leg spinner. Looking at that, Dube was a perfect matchup. His entry point was perfect from 7-15, so we took that chance. It didn't go well but we might try it again," Suryakumar added.

India eventually posted a good total on board, one that Suryakumar was confident was defendable.

"We felt that if the outfield would have been really fast, the score would have been around 180-185. But with the bowling line-up we have, I think on a give day, if you bowl 12-14 good overs, we can defend any total," Suryakumar concluded.

With the bat, Abhishek Sharma starred with a blistering 75 off just 37 balls, while Hardik Pandya contributed 38 from 29 deliveries. With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav led the attack with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah took two each. Axar Patel and Tilak Verma chipped in with one apiece. The win sealed India’s spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
