On October 12, 2024, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Sanju Samson played one of the most explosive innings seen in recent Indian T20I history. Facing Bangladesh in the third T20I, Samson smashed leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for 5 consecutive sixes in the 10th over.

India, having lost an early wicket, were well ahead at 82/1 inside the first six overs thanks to a dynamic partnership between Samson and Suryakumar Yadav.

When Sanju Samson exposed Rishad Hossain’s spin web

The momentum was already with India when Sanju Samson faced Bangladesh’s prime spinner Rishad Hossain in that pivotal 10th over.

After a dot ball to begin, he unleashed a barrage of 5 successive sixes over various parts of the ground, over the bowler’s head, over long-off, and then deep mid-wicket, before finishing the over with another maximum.

That over alone yielded 30 runs, becoming instrumental in building the mammoth total. Sanju Samson then scored his first T20I century, reaching 100 off 40 balls. He ended with 111 runs off 47 balls, with 8 sixes and 11 fours.

India posted 297/6 in their 20 overs, one of the highest totals by a full ICC member in T20Is. Bangladesh were overwhelmed and ultimately restricted to 164/7.

What makes this performance even more memorable is Samson’s intention. He revealed after the match that he’d been working with his mentor, visualising the achievement of 5 sixes in an over. He had been chasing that moment for some time, and on this night, everything clicked.

Samson deprived of an opportunity in Asia Cup 2025

While Sanju Samson used to dominate Rishad Hossain in the past, the Indian team didn’t trust him during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four encounter against Bangladesh.

Hossain overpowered India with 2 wickets in 3 overs, conceding 27 runs. Despite Samson’s past heroics, he was held back by the management. In the 7 batters that came out to bat in the first inning, Samson failed to find a place.

That unexpected switch in batting order left many fans baffled, especially Sanju Samson supporters who felt wronged.
