India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir landed in hot water after an unexpected batting order shuffle left fans baffled. During the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four game against Bangladesh, India wasted a good start, thus attracting criticism online.

India batted first, and Abhishek Sharma came out all guns firing, hitting 75 off just 37 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes. His start guided the men in blue to 72 runs in the first six overs.

However, after Abhishek Sharma’s run-out, Shivam Dube came out to bat at no.3, failing horribly (2 off 3 balls). Suryakumar Yadav, the captain, could only managed to score 5 off 11 balls at no.4.

Instead of Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya came out to bat at no.5. While Varma eventually waked out at no.6, his dismissal paved the way for Axar Patel, thus pushing Sanju Samson to no.8.

The move baffled the fans on social media, especially Samson supporters. After dethroning him as opener, the wicketkeeper hasn’t had many opportunities to bat in the Asia Cup 2025.

And this latest shuffle only angered the fans as they slammed head coach Gautam Gambhir left, right and centre for unnecessary experiments.

That being said, the fans’ frustration also stemmed from the fact that India wasted a good start provided by Abhishek Sharma. After 72 runs in the powerplay, India succumbed to 168/6 by the end of the first 20 overs.
