Josh Hazlewood warns Australia (Source:@CrickitbyHT/X.com)
The Border Gavaskar Trophy is one of the most awaited series in the cricketing calendar and the 2024-25 one will start on 22nd of November at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The mind games have started, and with India getting whitewashed by New Zealand in their home conditions, Australia are the clear favourites to win the series.
However, Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood has warned his countrymen against any complacency in his interview to Sydney Morning Herald. He stated that the whitewash from the hands of Kiwis might awaken a sleeping giant and India could come out hard against Australia. He also added that the loss surely would have hurt India's confidence and some of the batters who have not played in Australia might be unsure of what to expect Down Under.
"It might awaken a sleeping giant, so to speak. It’s obviously better them losing 3-0 than winning 3-0, easily. The confidence might have taken a bit of a hit. A lot of them have been out here, but there’s a few batters who haven’t, so they’ll be a bit unsure of what to expect."
Josh Hazlewood Applauds New Zealand After Series Win In India
He added that India losing the series is a good thing for Australia and credited New Zealand for their victory as even winning a single game in India is difficult.
""I don’t think you can read too much into it. The results are obviously good for us in a way. Credit to the Kiwi boys. They played outstanding cricket. To win 3-0 in India is unbelievable. It’s hard enough to win one game there, let alone every match of the series."
Josh Hazlewood will be a key member for Australia in their bid to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the home team would be hoping that he stays fit for all the five matches.
