The dominant Indian team recently suffered a shocking whitewash against New Zealand in a three-match T20I series. It has also affected their chances of qualifying for the WTC final big time and now India need to win by the margin of almost 4-0 or 5-0 in Australia. It is a very tough task, as beating Australia in Australia by whatever margin is quite difficult, and hoping that India can beat them without even dropping a single game would be a very optimistic outlook.
The same views have now been shared by the former Indian skipper and batter, Sunil Gavaskar on the YouTube channel Sports Tak. The legend clearly mentioned that India can't qualify for the WTC final now. He said that India cannot beat Australia 4-0 in their home conditions and added that it is practically not possible.
Gavaskar Wants India To Focus On Series Win
He stated that India can win 3-1, and one should not focus on qualifying for the WTC final now and just concentrate on winning the series first. Gavaskar added that winning the series would bring happiness back among the fans, and mentioned that whatever margin India manages to win in Australia, it would be a big achievement.
"No, I don't. I actually dont. India cannot beat Australia 4-0 in the Test series. I'd be very, very I'd be over the moon. If they do that, I would be over the moon if they do that. But 4-0. India can win 3-1, 4-0 is... don't talk about the World Test Championship final. Now just focus on trying to win the series in Australia. Never mind whether you win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, 2-1. But go and win. Because that is how all of us Indian cricket fans are going to be back to feeling good again."
The first Test between India and Australia is all set to start on 22nd of November at the Optus Stadium, Perth. It is a five-match series and India have won their last two Test series against Kangaroos in Australia, and it would be interesting to see how they go about their business after a humiliating series loss against New Zealand.
