Mithun Manhas, the newly elected BCCI president, believes that his ‘work and credentials’ might have helped him become the head of the organisation. Former Delhi batter-turned-administrator Manhas also shared his future agenda with the BCCI after taking charge in Mumbai today.
Manhas reacts to his appointment as BCCI president
Mithun Manhas worked as a technical director for the Jammu & Kashmir cricket and helped it grow steadily. According to him, his skills both as an administrator and cricketer helped him become the new president of the the Board for Cricket Control in India.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mithun Manhas explained the factors that led to his appointment as the BCCI president. He further spoke about his agenda after succeeding Roger Binny in the high-profile role. He opined that the eventual idea to take the board forward and future of Indian cricket.
““Maybe my work, my credentials (worked in my favour to become the president). Credentials both as an administrator, as well as a cricketer (led to my being chosen). As an administrator, as a cricketer, as well, for the past 4 years, I’ve been working at the JKCA. And we qualified (for Ranji Trophy quarterfinals) too. The whole agenda is development and to take BCCI forward," Manhas stated as quoted by Indian Express.
Mithun Manhas, a former Delhi cricketer, was elected the BCCI president in Mumbai on Sunday during the AGM. It came as a surprise to the cricketing circles. Amidst some of the heavyweight names, Manhas’ name hardly made any noise. Manhas, the 37th BCCI president, said that he would fulfil the job with dedication and passion.
“It’s an absolute honour to be the president of the world’s finest cricketing board. And it’s at the same time, a huge responsibility as well. I give my assurance that I’ll be committed to do it to the best of my abilities and with dedication and passion.”
Apart from Manhas, Rajeev Shukla was elected as vice-president, Devajit Saikia as secretary, and Prabhtej Bhatia as joint secretary. Raghuram Bhatt became the new treasurer, while Jaydev Shah was added to the Apex Council.
