The ongoing Test series between India and England is spreading excitement to the next level as both sides are locking horns with full intensity. Ahead of the second Test, England got a massive boost with Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer’s arrival in the Test squad.
Although included in the squad, the duo remained on the sidelines for the Edgbaston Test. Ahead of the third Test, England’s spin bowling coach dropped a massive update on their availability in the remaining matches.
England Coach Hints At Archer-Atkinson’s Return
England stepped into the ongoing Test series against India without prime bowlers like Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson, but got a massive boost as the duo returned in the squad ahead of the second Test. After four years of injury battle, Archer remained on the sidelines even after coming back to the team.
As England opted to step in with an unchanged playing XI for the second Test, Atkinson also failed to secure a spot. As quoted by News18, England’s spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel shared a massive update on their availability in the remaining matches of the ongoing series.
“We’ve got some guys coming back into the squad. Namely, Joff bowled rockets at lunch today again, and Gus may be back at full fitness, and then you can start to rotate,” he said.
Backs Carse After Tough Outing
In the second Test, English bowlers struggled in front of India’s batting brilliance. After taking just four wickets in the first Test, Brydon Carse secured only 1 wicket in the first innings of the second Test while conceding 83 runs in 24 overs. Despite the modest performances, Jeetan Patel threw his support behind the struggling pacer when asked about his performance.
“Carse had two hard test matches, and fortunately, we’ve had a good break between the first and second Test, but it’s the beauty of having a battery of seamers,” he said.
As the third Test is set to unfold at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, England’s bowling lineup will receive a massive boost if Archer and Atkinson come in. Their inclusion would sharpen England’s pace arsenal as the hosts aim to script another commanding victory.
