Krishna unwanted Test record [Source: @screwgauge77/x.com]
When Prasidh Krishna was brought in the India Test setup, there were high hopes since the lanky pacer impressed everyone with his hit-the-deck bowling in red-ball cricket. However, fast forward to 5 Tests later and the Prasidh Krishna experiment in red-ball cricket is looking like a disaster.
The tall pacer was picked in the India squad for England tour with a sense of optimism that he would torment the English batters with his pace and bounce. However, that has not happened as the home team have bullied the Indian seamer and have shattered his confidence. With his un-impressive performance in the first innings of Edgbaston Test, Krishna has now created an unwanted record.
Worst economy rate in Tests: Krishna fails to deliver in red-ball cricket
In the 148 years of Test history, Prasidh Krishna holds the record for having the "worst economy rate" (min 500 balls delivered). Currently, his economy rate in Tests is 5.26, which showcases his inability to bowl at consistent lines and lengths and give freebies to the opponents. In just 5 matches, Krishna's stocks in red-ball cricket has fallen down as he registers this unwanted record to his name.
Why Krishna struggles in Test cricket?
He has everything that is required to become a quality fast bowler but the Indian seamer lacks proper control over his lines and lengths. Throughout the current English tour, the pacer has looked wayward and the England batters have utilized it to their advantage. Plus, at times he tries too hard to deliver which goes against him in red-ball cricket.
Krishna blames himself for India's Headingley loss
In the first Test Vs England at Headingley, the hosts chased down 371 with utmost ease and Krishna blamed himself for India's loss. He conceded 128 runs in the first innings and also looked lethargic in the 371-run defence.
"I definitely did not bowl the lengths that I wanted to. It took me some time to get used to the slope on that side. No reasons, but I should be able to do it as a professional. I take complete responsibility about it, and maybe, do it better next time," Indian seamer said.
Krishna still has time to redeem himself if he can deliver the goods and take the rest of the England wickets quickly.
