After a decade, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy went back to Border’s homeland as Pat Cummins and Co. lifted the most awaited trophy with a 3-1 margin. In front of Australia’s excellence, Team India’s glory fell short. But amidst this disastrous series, Jasprit Bumrah’s indomitable bowling performance shined throughout.

Since the Perth Test, Bumrah showcased his excellence and continued his incredible consistency throughout the series by securing 32 wickets. After receiving the Player of the series award, he reflected on his last-minute injury to the team’s performance with a heavy heart.

Bumrah On His Injury

Stepping into the SCG,  another setback hit the team hard as Jasprit Bumrah walked out of the field with discomfort and didn’t feature in the rest of the day. After the bowler went through a scan, fans were in shock. The setback became bigger when Bumrah didn’t come to bowl in the second innings. After he was asked about this injury, he shared his thoughts.

“Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings.” Bumrah said.

The Momentum Goes Away

After dominating the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for years, Team India faced a bitter blow, watching their winning streak unravel after a decade. Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in the second innings became challenging for the visitors. Despite valiant efforts, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna tried to put pressure but Australia took away momentum. Bumrah reflected on that.

“The chat was about belief, the other bowlers stepped up in the first innings. With a bowler short, the others had to take responsibility. The chat this morning was about the same thing, about having belief and showing character.” Bumrah said.

“Lots of ifs and buts, the whole series was fought hard, we were in the game today as well, not like we were out of it, this is how Test cricket goes. Being in the game for longer, creating pressure, absorbing pressure, and playing to the situation are all important. You have to adapt to the situations and these learnings will help us in the future.” he added.

After a decade, Team India failed to lift the prestigious trophy. The toughest rivalry hit them hard as they kept struggling on Australian soil. Despite a strong start with a win in the first Test, India's batting lineup faltered badly throughout the series. While the bowlers fought hard to keep the pressure on, the persistent batting woes ultimately cost them the series.
