Each minute of the ongoing Sydney Test has become unmissable as both teams are facing each other in a fierce battle. As the intense battle was going on, Steve Smith’s unfortunate dismissal put him away from an iconic milestone of his career.

As the home side is batting in their second innings, the visitors are trying to push the pressure on them. However, Steve Smith’s luck took a dramatic turn when Prasidh Krishna bowled a sensational delivery that saw him dismissed just shy of the remarkable 10,000-run milestone.

Smith’s Wait Becomes Longer

As the ongoing Test series is standing in Australia’s favor with a 2-1 margin, Team India is trying hard to level the series and retain the prestigious trophy. The Sydney Cricket Ground is witnessing a thrilling encounter between these two cricket greats. Ahead of the match, Steve Smith was on the brink of a historic milestone- 10,000 Test runs. However, his pursuit was cut short when he was dismissed just one run shy of the landmark.

Steve Smith is the only batter two trapped twice on 9990s mark before entering into the 10 thousand Test run list. While batting in the first innings, Prasidh Krishna sent him back on 33 runs, extending his wait. But another setback was on the way. Krishna dismissed him again in 4 runs. As a result, the Aussie star finished the series a heartbreaking single run short of joining the exclusive 10k club.

Now, Steve Smith joins an exclusive and unfortunate list of cricket greats dismissed on the 9990-run mark in Test cricket, alongside legends like Brian Lara and Mahela Jayawardene. Lara was dismissed after scoring 9993 runs against England in 2004. On the other hand, Jayawardene faced the setback of being dismissed in 9999 runs against South Africa in 2011.

Team India Suffer 3-1 Series Defeat

Following a tough defeat in the Melbourne Test, Team India arrived at the Sydney Test with a fresh mindset and renewed determination. Since the first day, they were poised to register a win in this clash but the way became complicated due to the batting failure. But while bowling, they are giving their best as the Australian side is playing in the second innings.

However, their bowling attack had been on fire, with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj stepping up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, keeping hopes alive. But the Australian side eventually won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after almost a decade,  by 3-1.
