As a result, the Aussie star finished the series a heartbreaking single run short of joining the exclusive 10k club.
Now, Steve Smith joins an exclusive and unfortunate list of cricket greats dismissed on the 9990-run mark in Test cricket, alongside legends like Brian Lara and Mahela Jayawardene. Lara was dismissed after scoring 9993 runs against England in 2004. On the other hand, Jayawardene faced the setback of being dismissed in 9999 runs against South Africa in 2011.

Following a tough defeat in the Melbourne Test, Team India arrived at the Sydney Test with a fresh mindset and renewed determination.
