Former Indian cricketer and BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly had backed Virat Kohli amid rumours of his retirement. Kohli hasn’t been in the best touch since a while and his failures in Border-Gavaskar Trophy has fuelled speculations around his possible retirement.

Virat Kohli, once India’s most successful modern-day cricketer, has fallen from his reign. His average dropped below 30 in the three-game home Test series against New Zealand.

Moreover, apart from a century in the Perth Test, Kohli failed to score more than 100 runs combined in the rest of the four Tests against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Since India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a place at the World Test Championship Final, rumour surrounding Virat Kohli’s retirement has been rife.

Ganguly advises Virat Kohli against retirement

Apparently, the selection committee is mulling an overhaul of the Test team by getting rid of the seniors ahead of the Test tour to England scheduled in June this year.

Meanwhile, amid constant backlash from media and fans, former Indian cricketer and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has come out in support of Virat Kohli. Talking to RevSportz, Ganguly said Kohli has a lot of cricket left in him and must not retire anytime soon.

"I feel There is a lot of Cricket and runs left in Virat Kohli," Ganguly said.

That being said, Virat Kohli is reportedly not thinking of retirement. He is likely to make himself available for the Ranji Trophy to regain form ahead of the Champions Trophy scheduled in February. He is also picked up for the ODI series against England.

Virat Kohli opts out of Ranji Trophy with neck sprain

After BCCI issued direct orders for senior players to feature in the Ranji Trophy, Virat Kohli opted out of the Delhi-Saurashtra game citing a neck sprain. According to reports, he sustained the injury during the Australia tour and hasn’t healed properly.

However, rumours also suggest that Kohli has made himself available for Delhi's last Ranji Trophy game against Railways. This could mark Kohli’s return to the Ranji Trophy after 12 long years.
