Very rarely do we see that stars of today, reach out to the past of yesterday. Indian stunner, Virat Kohli played his last Ranji Trophy match over a decade ago, but now the news of his return to play in Delhi's Ranji match against Railways has proved that one can never forget where they come from.
Kohli, who has received a lot of scrutiny for his poor form despite scoring a ton in Australia, will be featuring in the domestic tournament after 13 years. The talismanic batter has since climbed the steps of success and is unarguably the best batter of this generation. His return has been met with a lot of excitement and with that in mind, let us jump in and take a quick look at what happened the last time Virat Kohli wore the whites not for India but for Delhi.
What happened the last time Kohli played in Ranji Trophy?
To begin with, Virat Kohli played under the leadership of Virender Sehwag in Delhi's match against Uttar Pradesh. The match began on 2 November 2012 in Ghaziabad and it included a lot of star players like current India head coach Gautam Gambhir and pacers Ashish Nehra and Ishant Sharma.
In the Ranji Trophy match, Virat Kohli scored 14 in the first innings and 43 in the second during Delhi's six-wicket loss, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissing him in both innings, his now RCB teammate. Interestingly, Virat Kohli's birthday was celebrated on the final day of the Test match.
It must be noted that the 36-year-old was included in Delhi’s provisional squad for the Ranji game against Saurashtra in Rajkot. However, he informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his unavailability due to a neck sprain that required an injection, ruling him out of the fixture.
