'Losing To Them For The Last 20 Years' - Aakash Chopra On IND-NZ Semifinal

The Kiwis, in their last league match, have thrashed Sri Lanka for a comprehensive win in just 26.3 overs. With this win, New Zealand are more likely to qualify for the semifinals than Afghanistan and Pakistan. Aakash Chopra believes that India won't be having a problem with New Zealand in the semifinals.

Losing four on the trot, the Kiwis were struggling in the middle stage of the tournament, but they have now pulled themselves back and are the strongest contenders for the knockout stage.

No Indian fan has forgotten what happened in the World Cup 2019, but the Indian team have moved on as they recently defeated them in the league stage and broke the 20-year-long curse of not winning against the Kiwis in the World Cups.

Here's what Aakash Chopra said about New Zealand being the potential opponent of India in the semifinals:

"The semi-final lineup is set in my opinion. Pakistan's story is finished. They are not going to win by so many runs. Afghanistan are also not going to win by such a huge margin. So their story is also finished."

The former cricketer and commentator, Aakash Chopra believes that the contest between Afghanistan, New Zealand and Pakistan for the semifinal spot ended with the win of the Kiwis over the Sri Lankan team last night.

"So New Zealand will be in front of India, this match will be played at the Wankhede on the 15th, and South Africa will be in front of Australia, which will be played at the Eden Gardens on the 16th. The good thing is that we have broken the ICC jinx against New Zealand."

He further added that India have already broken the curse and would not fear facing the Kiwis in the semifinals considering what happened in the last World Cup.

"We were losing to them for the last 20 years but those things have changed now. We defeated this team in very good fashion while chasing, we grabbed them. So in such a scenario, I expect that Wankhede won't be that big a problem either."
