In a pivotal clash between South Africa and Afghanistan at the ICC World Cup 2023, the Proteas, currently second on the points table, faced a minor setback with the dismissal of South Africa skipper, Temba Bavuma

Having won six of their last eight games, the South African team had high hopes for a strong performance in this match. Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 244 runs in their 50 overs.

The turning point came in the 11th over when Mujeeb Ur Rahman returned to the bowling crease, delivering a crucial blow by dismissing Temba Bavuma. Despite being injured and visibly limping, Bavuma displayed remarkable determination by stepping up to bat.

However, Mujeeb's well-pitched delivery outside off forced Bavuma to rock back and attempt a pull shot. Unfortunately for Bavuma, the shot lacked the required power to clear the long square boundaries, leading to his dismissal. Gurbaz, stationed near deep mid-wicket, took a safe catch, breaking the partnership and altering the course of the game.

Bavuma's departure, scoring 23 off 28 balls, highlighted the challenges faced by the Proteas in their pursuit of victory.

With Rassie van der Dussen stepping in, South Africa at 66 for 2 in 13 overs.
