'Left In Very Dark Place' - Darren Bravo Takes Indefinite Break After Persistent Snub From CWI

Darren Bravo's ouster from the West Indies ODI squad for the forthcoming England series seems to have affected the cricketer psychologically and broken his spirits as he revealed on Sunday (November 26) that he is opting for an indefinite break to ponder over his future.

The cricketer wrote a painstaking statement on his Instagram handle directed to the Cricket West Indies (CWI) regime, declaring he has been "left in a very dark place" by the selector's decision to continuously leave him out at the international stage.

Bravo wrote since there has been "no communication" on his axing from the senior West Indies set-up across formats over the past two years, it has hit him that his "writing is on the wall" and therefore the player has decided to step aside for an indefinite period.

At pains over West Indies axe, Bravo goes on indefinite Break

Notably, Bravo's frustration holds weight as he last played in any format for the West Indies in February 2022 during the ODI series in India. The elegant left-hander hasn't added to his 56 Test caps since December 2020 and 26 T20I outings after January 2022.

The 34-year-old has put himself through the grind of the domestic game over the past 20 months and even dominated the runs-chart with 416 runs in this summer's edition of the Super50 List A competition played in the Caribbean, which, however, didn't lead to a return to West Indies colours.

"Without any level of communication, I’ve been left in a very dark place," Bravo wrote. "At the moment there’s three teams representing the region in multiple formats/series. That’s approximately 40–45 players and if I can’t be in any of these teams after competing in our regional tournaments and scoring runs, therefore they are basically telling me that the writing is on the wall."

"I’m not giving up but I believe it’s best to step away just for a bit and maybe make some room for a young and upcoming talent," he added.
