'Sometimes It's Frustrating': Pat Cummins On Off-Field Criticism Over 'Woke' Views

Pat Cummins is all set to conclude a phenomenal year on the cricketing field. As the captain of the mighty Australian cricket team, he retained the Ashes series, lifted the maiden World Test championship, and secured the sixth ODI World Cup title.

However, instead of being valued over his achievements, Cummins is being subject to constant ridicule for his 'woke' views off the field. As a prominent figure in the cricketing world, Cummins has a platform that extends beyond the boundaries of the cricket field, and he has used it to advocate for issues he cares deeply about.

The Australian captain's stance on topics like climate change and internal political matters of the country has exposed him to criticism from those who may disagree with his perspective.

However, Cummins couldn't care less. In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, he said he is unaware of the definition of the term 'woke.' Moreover, the skipper is reluctant to leave his values behind just to fit into the mainstream opinion.

“But yeah, I’d say from my parents and family. You know, mum and dad have always been very clearly focused on what’s important and that’s always been instilled in us kids. I think also playing cricket, and travelling the world for 12 years, opens your eyes," Cummins said.

Cummins added that he loves his country, and the values his parents instilled in him during childhood drive him to voice opinions on sensitive social matters.

Of course, sometimes, the unjust criticism gets to him. Cummins also feels the need to explain himself when his words get taken out of context. But the pacer says if he pays heed to every word being said against him, he wouldn't have time to even breathe.

“Sometimes it’s frustrating. You feel like you want to explain why you did what you did. But if you did that every time, you wouldn’t have a minute left in your day," Cummins concluded.

Overall, Pat Cummins thinks he is immune to off-field senseless criticisms. He simply does not have time to react or pay any attention to it. The international cricket schedule is as hectic as it can get during the current modern day and age.

Thus, achieving on-field excellence is the skipper's top priority as he leads Australian cricket to glory.
