Daryl Mitchell, the player of the match for the third Test between India and New Zealand, summed up the Black Caps’ mentality with an iconic line after his team whitewashed India on their home turf. Mitchell’s determination and grit stood out as he battled extreme conditions to deliver for his team.

New Zealand scripted history by becoming the first team in history of Test cricket to whitewash team India in India in a 3-game Test series. With a 25-run victory in the Mumbai Test, the Kiwis celebrated a new dawn in red-ball cricket. Notably, the Black Caps were on a backfoot after Jadeja bagged a fifer to restrict them to 174 in the third inning. However, the 147-run target proved good enough to outclass India on Wankhede’s rank turner.

Daryl Mitchell take dig at India after series sweep

That being said, Daryl Mitchell was awarded the Player of the Match award for his 82 off 129 balls in the first innings, where he battled extremely humid conditions to post a respectable total for the Kiwis. Mitchell also picked 4 catches in the field to surpass both the wicket-keepers.

According to Indian Express, Daryl Mitchell reflected on New Zealand’s team first mentality in post-game press conference. He stated how a bunch of Kiwis are ruling the world and dominating the way they are supposed to.

“We’re just a bunch of Kiwis taking on the world… doing things that Kiwis do," Mitchell said.

Indeed, the triumph against India has fuelled New Zealand with immense pride and confidence as they take home a historic trophy. On the other hand, for team India, a serious introspection awaits. With the WTC finals qualification at stake, Rohit Sharma and co will be under tremendous pressure to turn things around.
