'Kiska Director Hai?' Wasim Akram Raises Doubt On Mickey Arthur's Role In PAK Cricket

Pakistan cricket team wrapped up one of its worst World Cup campaigns on Saturday with a humiliating loss against England. As Jos Buttler asked Babar Azam to field first, Pakistan's hypothetical qualification scenario ceased to exist.

Naturally, the cricket experts and fans back home in Pakistan were bewildered by the team's performance and sought answers. Besides the non-performing players, former Pakistani legendary pacer Wasim Akram criticized the Director of Pakistan cricket, Mickey Arthur and accused him of unprofessionalism.

On the popular show, "Pavilion," Akram raised doubt on the true nature of Arthur's role in Pakistan cricket. Mickey Arthur earlier served as the national side's head coach from 2016-2019. Later, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) discontinued his contract and brought in Saqlain Mushtaq as a replacement.

Following Saqlain Mustaq's departure, PCB approached Arthur again, but he refused owing to prior commitments with the Derbyshire country team. Despite his unavailability, PCB seemed surprisingly determined to reinstate him and appointed Arthur as director of Pakistan Cricket.

Now, Akram is confused over the true nature of Mickey Arthur's role within the management. The former pacer says that Arthur spends negligible time with the team and often joins the contingent just days before the commencement of a series and vanishes once the series concludes.

Akram claimed that he has a full-time job and is getting paid handsomely for the same. Yet, Arthur spends most of his time away from Pakistan. There is absolutely no sense of accountability or even instances of efforts being made for the betterment of Pakistan cricket's future.

The legendary pacer fired shots at the PCB as well for their mismanagement and irrational obsession with foreign coaches.

Mickey Arthur has been caught in the whirlwind of criticism due to his comical reasoning behind Pakistan's disastrous World Cup campaign. Instead of discussing his team's shortcomings, Arthur spent more time calling out BCCI's extravagant events and pinning the blame on injuries.

With Pakistan heading into a rebuilding phase in the aftermath of the World Cup disaster, Mickey Arthur's job will certainly come under serious threat.
