The historic Ashes returns with the same thrill, but the first match of the series unveiled pure drama in Perth. In a blink-and-gone finish, England’s campaign began with a massive heartbreak.

Before day 2 started in the match started, Michael Vaughan backed England to seize control and turn the match around. But after Australia’s ruthless finish, Ravichandran Ashwin took a sly dig at the English great.

Ashwin fires a cheeky shot at Michael Vaughan

Whenever the Ashes returns, the entire world witnesses the unreal red-ball drama, and the ongoing edition is no different. Even though the first match of the iconic Test series saw an early finish, the thrills soared high. As Australia started the series with a dominating victory, Ben Stokes and Co. had a nightmare on the Perth pitch.

After the first day of the Test match witnessed a battle of nerves between both sides, former England batter Michael Vaughan predicted England to control on day 2. On his social media handle, he wrote, “Was that the most dramatic first day of all time? I think it was.. What's Day 2 going to bring.. My prediction is for England to Bat the day and have full control by the end.”

However, the classic Aussie dominance flipped the script, and England had a disappointing start in the series. After Vaughan’s prediction backfired on the English side, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t lose the chance to take a dig at Vaughan.

Responding to Vaughan’s tweet, he wrote, “‘Full control' full of doubts.” Ashwin’s playful jab went viral.

England fall apart under Starc-Boland's magic and Head’s masterstroke

Before the ongoing edition of the Ashes began, thrills soared to the sky, and the first Test turned out to be a pure thriller. Even though the match ended within just two days, the Aussie stars shone bright on their home soil. While bowling first, Mitchell Starc emerged as their worst nightmare as the Aussie pacer’s stunning spell of 7/58 restricted the visitors to 172 runs.

In the first innings, Australia wobbled, but once England came out to bat again, Starc lit up the stage and Boland’s four-wicket burst ripped them down to 164. Chasing a short total, Travis Head deepened England’s woes with a stunning innings of 123 runs, and England ended up facing a massive 8-wicket defeat.
