Jos Buttler Hails Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Talent Acknowledging His 'Bihar' Roots

England captain Jos Buttler has shone a spotlight on the remarkable background and extraordinary talent of 14-year-old Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Speaking on the "For the Love of Cricket" podcast with Stuart Broad, Buttler expressed awe at Suryavanshi's achievements, particularly emphasizing his origins in Bihar, a region not traditionally known for producing top-tier cricketers.

Buttler highlighted Suryavanshi's rapid rise, noting his participation in first-class cricket at such a young age and his record as the holder of the fastest century for India at the U19 level.

Admiring and acknowledging Vaibhav Suryavanshi's origin, Buttler revealed to Broad that he has the capability to shine after his rise from Bihar.

"He's from a very small state in North-East India, I think it's called Bihar. And not many cricketers have been produced from there and even that age he is playing first class cricket and he has got the fastest hundred for India in U19," Buttler said in the podcast.

Buttler, who witnessed Suryavanshi's audacity first-hand while keeping wicket, made a striking comparison. "He has this amazing bat swing, a bit like — it's a huge statement — Yuvraj Singh slash Brian Lara."

Reminiscing about Vaibhav Suryavanshi's record-breaking 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, an innings featuring eleven sixes, Buttler described the mixed emotions.

"It’s inspiring and deflating at the same time. This guy’s 20 years younger than me and he's just smashing us all around the park... shockwaves throughout the cricket world. It was premeditated. It wasn’t just there," Buttler concluded.
