Shreyas Iyer inspired Punjab Kings to pull off a heist for the ages against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of the IPL 2025 season. Storming Punjab Kings into the finals, their first in over a decade, Iyer led a huge chase by cracking an explosive 87* from 41 balls with five fours and eight huge sixes.

Needless to say, the senior Indian batter and Punjab Kings captain won the ‘Player of the Match’ award as Mumbai Indians slipped to their first defeat in IPL history after posting a total in excess of 200.

Shreyas Iyer fires warning to RCB before IPL 2025 final

While speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony and as quoted by CREX, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer explained that he prefers to remain calm in big games. He also praised his teammates for playing with intent off late for the Punjab Kings franchise. Iyer said:

“I don't know, to be honest. I love such big occasions. I always say to myself and my colleagues that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are and the better the results. I was focusing on my breathing rather than sweating out there in the middle. As I mentioned right before the game, all players need to be assertive and show their intent from ball one. Their intents were stupendous. Even for me, when I went in, I had to spend some time. The more time I spend on the middle, the better I get, and my vision also gets better.”

Shreyas Iyer also fired out a stern warning to RCB before the IPL 2025 finals, claiming that the win against Mumbai Indians was just a “job half done” for Punjab Kings. Additionally explaining his mindset before bagging a record deal with Punjab Kings before the IPL 2025 mega auction, the cricketer said:

“To be honest, I wasn't thinking or expecting where I would go in the auction. I always wanted to go into a good environment. I personally think that the job is only half done.”

Shreyas Iyer carved 87* runs from 41 balls to headline Punjab Kings’ record chase of 204 runs against Mumbai Indians.

Punjab Kings will now face RCB in the final of the IPL 2025 season in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
