Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) young Indian spinner Suyash Sharma revealed his deep-felt admiration and fondness for India and Mumbai Indians (MI) stalwart Rohit Sharma ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

One of the finds of the IPL 2023, the KKR wristspinner looked forward to a potential bout with MI's veteran opener, who will return to the league free from the burden of captaincy after being controversially sacked in favour of comeback man and experienced allrounder Hardik Pandya.

Regardless of whether he carries a captaincy tag or not, Rohit has always enjoyed his time facing up against KKR in his longstanding IPL career. The elegant right-hander averages nearly 47 with a strike-rate surpassing 131 against the two-time champions with a century and six half-centuries.

For Suyash, the challenge will be to not get intimidated by Rohit's presence when he faces him during the IPL 2024 and stick to his strengths which allowed him to make an impact for the KKR last summer, taking his 10 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 8.23.

"Rohit Sharma is a tough batter to bowl, I used to watch videos before each game to know the strengths - so from that, it's tough to bowl to Rohit bhaiya. As a fan moment as well, I like his batting," Suyash told Shubhankar Mishra on the latter's YouTube channel.

Rohit, who has maintained a tight lip about his removal from MI's captaincy, will be hoping to make a strong statement as a batter when he returns to don the five-time champions' jersey during IPL 2024, starting March 22.

The 36-year-old is currently busy with his India captaincy duties against England for the five-time Test series, which the hosts now lead 3-1. The fifth Test starts on March 7 in Dharamshala.
