Karachi Kings strive to progress higher in the PSL 2024 points table [AP]

Karachi Kings face-off against Quetta Gladiators in Match 16 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 on Thursday (February 29). The Kings strive for supremacy over former champions Gladiators and to take a giant leap towards securing a spot in the playoffs of the league's ninth edition. 

As of Wednesday (February 28) morning, the Kings led by Shan Masood are placed fourth in the PSL 2024 points table with two wins and a solitary defeat after their three games while the Gladiators are positioned second with an even better 3-1 split following the conclusion of four league matches.

The Kings would've taken immense confidence from achieving victory in their thrilling clash with Lahore Qalandars last week, pulling off their second consecutive win of the tournament. Mir Hamza (2/31) and Hasan Ali (2/29) proved to be the heroes with the ball for the Kings, helping restrict the Qalandards to 175/6 on a flat surface at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. 

During the chase, the experienced middle-order pairing of Shoaib Malik (39) and Kieron Pollard (58) allowed the Kings to stay in the hunt despite early hiccups before they reached home on the last ball. 

Quetta Gladiators 

The Gladiators are heading for their encounter versus the Kings on the back of their first loss of the season after an insignificant allround display against the Sultans. 

Despite tight spells from Akeal Hosein (1/30) and Usman Tariq (0/27), they ended up conceding a hefty first-innings total of 180/4 and then slipped up with the bat, losing the game by 13 runs after none of their batters played a substantial enough knock.
