5 Prominent Players Who Missed Out On BCCI's Current Contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the list of annually contracted players for the season 2023-24. While there have been some promotions in the contracts for a few players, there have been demotions as well.

But some of the players have missed out on the annual contracts despite being an integral part of the team for the last few years. Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda and Umesh Yadav are a few of those, who have been ignored for the current season, which is justified considering they haven't been playing for a while.

But there are still some players whose exclusion has surprised the whole cricketing fraternity and created a buzz as well.

However, a couple of them might never get to play for India again but there are a few young ones who have a whole career in front of them and will have to turn the world upside down to make a comeback into the team considering the competition has been increasing.

We at OneCricket are presenting the prominent players who will not be receiving the annual salary for the season 2023-24.

#5 Umesh Yadav

The right-arm fast bowler, Umesh Yadav, who has played a crucial role in taking India's fast bowling attack to greater heights, has been excluded from the newly announced BCCI's annual contract list.

Umesh was even part of the team in the World Test Championship final 2023, as Jasprit Bumrah was injured, but now that Bumrah is back, he has been dropped.

With his pace, swing and bounce, Umesh has startled the best of batters in the world, but Mohammed Siraj's huge leap at the international level has made India sacrifice the services of Umesh Yadav. The last appearance he made was in the WTC Final 2023.

In his 57-match Test career, Umesh has picked 170 wickets, which are some decent numbers for a fast bowler.

#4 Cheteshwar Pujara

One of the most prolific longest format batters in the world, Cheteshwar Pujara has been excluded from the BCCI's annual contract.

Pujara was nothing short of a backbone for the Indian team in Test cricket, but his poor form continued and cost India the World Test Championship 2023.

Now that India have placed Shubman Gill at number three in the longest format and the way he has performed in the ongoing series at the same position, India seems to have moved on from Pujara.

With over 7,000 runs in 103 Test appearances, with an average of 43.6, Pujara's recent form led to his exclusion from the team and now from the annual contract.

#3 Yuzvendra Chahal

The foremost leg-spinner of the Indian team, now former, Yuzvendra Chahal is turning out to be one of the unluckiest cricketers in the world.

First, he was excluded from the T20 World Cup 2021, then he did not play in the T20 World Cup 2022 and then he was even excluded from the scheme of things for the World Cup 2023.

Once, who was the major reason for India's success in the last few years, has now been excluded from the BCCI's contract list.

Chahal has been in and out of the team and the reason behind the Indian team ignoring him is that they can't afford to play a spinner, who cannot bat when they have Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

#2 Shreyas Iyer

The man who hammered over 500 runs in the World Cup 2023 and was one of the key players for India's stellar unbeaten run till the final, Shreyas Iyer could not secure any contract for the season 2023-24.

His exclusion has surprised a huge number of fans, as he was our premier batter in the World Cup. With his poor form in the longest format and his body being injury-prone, BCCI have decided to drop him.

This is going to be a huge setback for Iyer considering the team has two options for every position.

He will have to do extremely well in domestic cricket to make a comeback in the Indian team and to cement his place, he will have to be more fit, both mentally and physically. Iyer is a supremely talented young player and will surely find a way to make a comeback.

#1 Ishan Kishan

From the reports, it seems like Ishan Kishan has become his own enemy considering he opted out of the South Africa tour, which could have been a huge breakthrough for him even in the longest format.

But he opted out and India have found a gem of a player in Dhruv Jurel, which forced BCCI to exclude Ishan Kishan from the annual contract.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 on the cards, Ishan Kishan has cost himself a World Cup team spot.

He still has time to make up for the loss by performing extraordinarily in the upcoming IPL, he can definitely make it to the World Cup team. Otherwise, he will have to wait and grind a lot to wear the Indian colours again.
