The Bangaldesh Cricket Board (BCB) have once again appointed Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan as the national men's team's One-Day International (ODI) skipper, who will lead the side into the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, and then in the marquee Cricket World Cup 2023.

Shakib takes over former skipper Tamim Iqbal, who left the leadership role last month, prompting the board to name the star all-rounder as captain.

The 36-year-old, who is currently playing in Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 for Galle Titans on Sunday, speaking to official broadcasters, stated how Bangladesh is eager to prove itself on the world stage.

Shakib has led Bangladesh in 49 ODIs, which include the World Cup in 2011 as well, where the Bangla Tigers did not make past the group stage.

'We are a very good team': Shakib Al Hasan

"It is nothing new to me. It’s a great opportunity for us to do well in the World Cup. I think we are a very good team and now it is the time to show everyone how good we are. It is great challenge for our team to showcase how good we have become in the last four years."

Bangladesh start its Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka on August 31 and kicks off its World Cup 2023 tourney on October 7 versus Afghanistan.
