Nicholas Pooran blasted a 35-ball 47 against India in the series-deciding fifth T20I in Florida, USA. The wicketkeeper-batter, alongside opener Brandon King, scorched Indian bowlers in the run-chase with their scintillating 107-run stand for the second wicket.

While bowler Romario Shepherd took home the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his four-fer earlier in the game, Pooran was adjudged ‘Player of the Series’ for his dazzling consistency throughout five matches.

As it turned out, the cricketer had to make himself scarce at the time of collecting his award as he had to rush to the airport to catch an impending flight.

Nicholas Pooran seems to have a busy cricketing schedule on his plate. The cricketer served Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 for two gruelling months in India. Following the tournament, the wicketkeeper-batter joined the West Indies camp in Zimbabwe for the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers.

Days after its conclusion, Pooran joined MI New York in the inaugural season of MLC in the United States. In less than four days after powering his side to a huge win in the final, he once again joined his West Indies teammates to face a Hardik Pandya-led Indian side at home.

The 27-year-old showed no signs of exhaustion, and asserted his batting dominance over the ‘Men in Blue’ from the outset. He registered scores of 41 and 67 to underpin West Indies’ wins in the first two matches of the series, and clubbed a quickfire 20 in the third in a bid to up his side’s scoring rate.

Pooran suffered a rare failure in the penultimate game, before returning to his usual best in the decider with his 47-run blitz in a series-winning run-chase.

Primed to take home the ‘Player of the Series’ award, the left-handed batter did not show up in order to catch an urgent flight, and instead, his captain Rovman Powell went up to the stage to collect on his behalf. Pooran also won a special branded electric guitar courtesy Hard Rock Café for hitting the most sixes throughout the series, which was also collected by his skipper.
