India's Rohit Sharma is just 163 runs away from completing 10,000 One-Day International (ODI) runs, putting him alongside the most elite of batters. Sharma, in 244 ODIs between 2007 and 2023, has amassed 9,837 runs which include 30 centuries, 48 fifties and as many as three double-hundreds.

The out-of-form batter will look to improve his record and regain prime touch in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 competition, which will be a precursor to the marquee Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. 

Sharma will be up against one of his most favoured ODI opponents in Sri Lanka, who has endured the wrath of the Indian opener on multiple occasions over the past several years. In 49 50-over matches, the Mumbai Indians captain has slammed 1,807 runs against Sri Lanka, which include six tons, and two double-hundreds. (as mentioned below)

After scoring his second ODI ton against Sri Lanka, Sharma's bat remained silent for almost four years against The Lankan Lions. However, on 13th November 2014 at Eden Gardens, Sharma roared and announced himself again. After a slow start to his innings, Sharma went into fifth gear once the opener reached his 100.

The Nagpur-born looted Sri Lanka bowlers for his last 164 runs, which came off just 73 balls. Sharma ended up scoring 264 runs, laced with 33 fours and nine sixes, redefining ODI batting forever.

Having already breached the 200-run mark twice Rohit Sharma went on to extend his supremacy, given the regularity at which double-hundreds were being registered. The Indian opener displayed textbook cricket early on, surviving a potent first spell, however, once settled, Sharma tore into the Lankan bowling attack.

Mastering the art of scoring double-centuries, Sharma blitzed to his final 107 runs in just 37 balls, making a mockery of the bowlers.  Sharma finished unbeaten on 208* with 13 fours and 12 boundaries.

Chasing 265, Rohit Sharma, who was in the form of his life, constructed an eye-pleasing hundred against Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup 2019.  Sharma not only showcased brute strength but exhibited with precision also milked bowlers all over the park.

Sharma's strokes ranged from drives, sweeps, and pulls, to one-handed lofts, during his 103-run knock, which came in 93 balls.  His knock included 14 exquisite fours and just two sixes, that not only helped India win comfortably, but also propelled to the top of the CWC 2029 points table.

With India opting to field a young side, Rohit Shame found himself in the XI batting in the late-order in Triangular series in Zimbabwe. Fresh from registering his maiden ODI hundred, Sharma demonstrated his talent against Sri Lanka, who asked India to chase down 243.

The five-time IPL-winning MI captain scored 101 off 100 with six fours and two sixes, which in 2023 seems surreal, given Sharma's evolution into a power-hitter.  This was Sharma's first ODI century against the Lankan Lions, who have since been a spectator to several of his splendours.
