The fifth and final ODI between India and West Indies had its fair share of surprises, with young Indian prodigy, Tilak Varma springing the biggest one. Known primarily for his batting, Varma was handed the ball for the first time in his international career, and he did not disappoint.

Varma grabbed his first wicket for India by dismissing Pooran

West Indies, in a comfortable position at 117/1, required 49 off 45 balls when rain halted play. On resumption, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya took an unexpected decision to introduce Varma into the bowling attack.

Nicholas Pooran, attempting a reverse hack on Varma's second delivery, got a leading edge. The ball kissed the cue end of his bat and was safely pouched by Pandya at first slip, marking Varma's maiden international wicket.

The southpaw could have added another to his tally, had he managed to hold onto a sharp return catch from Brandon King in his very next over.

While this wicket added a new dimension to his international career, Varma had already been turning heads with his batting in the series. The Mumbai Indians star, playing his debut international series, scored an impressive 173 runs in five matches, averaging 57.66, and topping the scoring charts for India.

After making his mark in the ODI series, all eyes will be on Varma as he will look to continue his good form in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland in Dublin.

Coming to the game, India struggled with the bat, posting a modest 165/9 in their 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav blitzed with a rapid 61 off just 45 balls, and Varma chipped in with a brisk 18-ball 27.

However, West Indies responded strongly. Led by Brandon King's dominating 85* off 55 deliveries and Nicholas Pooran's aggressive 35-ball 47, they comfortably sealed the game and took the series 3-2.
