During an interaction with JioCinema, Australian opener David Warner spoke at length about his cricketing idols and how they have managed to inspire him throughout his long illustrious cricketing career. The 36-year-old revealed some of cricket’s most revered personalities most notably Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, and Adam Gilchrist.

However, he did not hesitate to mention the name of MS Dhoni who he considers to be the greatest finisher in the history of the game. Warner expressed his admiration for Dhoni who is highly regarded for his finishing abilities and his ability to stay under pressure. These are some of the traits of the former Indian captain that impressed him the most.

When asked about the greatest finisher during a rapid-fire Question-Answer session, Warner highlighted the names of Ms Dhoni, Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, and Adam Gilchrist who inspired him the most.

Here's what Warner said about MSD

“For me, it’s MS Dhoni. For me, Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist were my idols. I wanted to play how they played the game. I wanted to be a leg spinner, Gilchrist was an opening dasher and Ricky Ponting – one of our best cricketers ever.”

The flamboyant left-handed batter further stated that he wanted to emulate their playing styles which involved Warne's leg spin, Gilchrist's explosive opening batting, and Ponting's all-round cricketing abilities. Warner’s opinions certainly carry weight given his extraordinary prowess.

As the World Cup is about to unravel, Warner’s performance will be closely monitored as the 5-time World Cup champions will be counting on him to play some dazzling innings. Besides, he has also looked with the bat in recent times. He played his last ODI against India at Rajkot where he severely counterattacked the likes of Bumrah and Siraj to help Australia reach to a monumental total.
