Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a vital move ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 season by roping former Australian cricketer Luke Williams as the head coach for their women's team.

Luke Williams takes helm as RCB Women’s team head coach for WPL

The Aussie veteran has been a transformative force in women's cricket coaching circles. Leading the Adelaide Strikers, Williams clinched a victory in the Women's Big Bash League 2022-2023 season after a couple of near-misses.

Furthermore, as the assistant coach for Southern Brave Women, his performance-driven approach was a game-changer, producing their maiden win in the Women's Hundred Championship. Further strengthening his coaching portfolio, Williams dedicated four years to the South Australian Scorpions in the Women's National Cricket League, pushing them to the finals not once but twice.

More recently, he took the reins of the Australia A women's team during their tour of England, showcasing his versatility and expertise across different formats and conditions.

Commenting on this strategic acquisition, Prathmesh Mishra, Chairman of RCB and Chief Commercial Officer of Diageo India, stated:

"I extend a heartfelt welcome to Luke Williams as he takes the reins of the RCB women's team. With his expertise and leadership, our goal is to embody the spirit of Royal Challengers Bangalore, to play bold and embark on a journey filled with determination, passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, aiming to make our fans and supporters proud."

Reflecting on his new role, Williams expressed, “I am thrilled to have been provided this opportunity with RCB and can’t wait to get started with the team’s preparations for the second season of the WPL. I look forward to working with a playing group that will host a number of the most exciting players in Indian and world cricket as we look to bring a bold and exciting style of play and success to our huge and passionate fan base.”

With Williams at the helm, RCB fans will be on the edge of their seats, waiting to see the women's team's evolution and success in the upcoming season after a dismal campaign last time around.
