In the ongoing Test series between England and India, Joe Root, the star batter of the England cricket team, has lauded the talents of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Root, expressing his admiration for the two Indian stalwarts, revealed his strategy to keep them subdued throughout the series.

Despite Virat's absence in the first two Tests and Rohit's struggles to make significant scores, Root acknowledged their immense experience and influence within the Indian team.

Root emphasized the importance of early control over Kohli and Sharma, aiming to minimize their potential to dictate the course of the series with substantial scores.

Here's what he said:

"You mentioned two of the greats of the modern era. Of course, there’s going to be focus. We know how good they are and they are also very senior within this current Indian batting lineup. So clearly they’ve got a big role to play within this Test team.

You want to make sure that you try and get on top of them early. They’ve got the ability to get big scores and we’ve been on the wrong end of that a few times, so it would be nice to try and keep them as quiet as we can throughout the series," he said.

He highlighted the need for England to stay vigilant and not allow the Indian duo to dominate, given their past performances against England. The recent heroics of Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed a nine-wicket match haul in the second Test, led India to a thrilling victory, leveling the series at 1-1.

As the teams gear up for the third Test starting on February 15 in Rajkot, Root's remarks shed light on the strategic approach England aims to adopt to counter the threat posed by Sharma and Co. and turn the tide in their favor.
