Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crashed and fell to an eight-wicket larruping at the hands of Punjab Kings in match number 13 of the IPL 2025 season. Turning up at their Lucknow home ground, the Ekana Cricket Stadium, LSG bowlers failed to defend 172 runs against Punjab Kings’ raging top-order batters.
After the match, LSG mentor and former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan expressed his disappointment over the result. However, the legendary Indian cricketer also took an indirect jibe at the pitch curator by alleging that the playing surface indicated a ‘home game’ for the visiting Punjab Kings team.
Zaheer Khan blasts Lucknow curator after defeat
While speaking at the press conference, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan expressed his disappointment over the outcome of the match. The former Indian cricketer also took this opportunity to lambast Ekana’s pitch curator for not granting the LSG their due home advantage.
Khan stated that several IPL teams have a tendency of enjoying at least a “little bit” of advantage in home games. The LSG mentor further stated that it seemed like a “Punjab curator” worked towards the Ekana pitch to favour the Punjab Kings franchise in the game.
“It’s a home game and in IPL you’ve seen how teams have looked at taking a little bit of home advantage, from that point of view you’ve seen the curator is not really thinking that it’s a home game. I think maybe it looked like, you know, it was Punjab curator out here.”
With two defeats in three games, the Rishabh Pant-led LSG franchise slipped to number six on the IPL 2025 points table. They will now face Mumbai Indians in match number 16 of the tournament on April 4.
The match against Mumbai will also be hosted by the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
