The Bangladesh vs Ireland first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium saw an unprecedented record made by the hosts. It is for the first time against Ireland that Bangladesh’s four top batters have managed to score 50-plus in an innings in Test cricket.

Notably, while covering Ireland's 286-run lead, Bangladesh’s Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto all scored 50-plus to give a massive edge to the hosts as well as make history.

Consistency followed as Mahmudul gave strong start

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy played a gritty and resilient 171-run knock off 286 balls, which frustrated the Irish visitors. The super-slow knock was defined by a strike rate of 59.79, yet his determination continued to strengthen Bangladesh's hopes as Shadman Islam fell for 80 runs in the 42nd over.

Islam also scored this gritty 80 off 104 balls, which included 9 boundaries and one six before he was dismissed by Matthew Humphreys. Hasan Joy, however, didn’t intend to give up even after losing his partner, with whom he stitched up 168 runs, before he was taken off by Barry McCarthy in the 87th over.

Mominul Haque, who came in at number 3, also put up an 82-run knock off 132 balls with 5 boundaries and two sixes to his name before McCarthy struck again in the 89th over.

Though these two wickets fell in quick succession, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who came to the crease after Hasan Joy’s wicket, remained steady at the time of writing as he scored 60-plus during the lunch break on Day 3.

Litton, Shanto continue to frustrate Ireland

Currently, Litton Das pairs with the skipper at the crease as Ireland is still struggling to make a significant dent in Bangladesh's mammoth score.

Meanwhile, the picks of the bowlers remain Barry McCarthy and Matthew Humphreys, who dismissed the Bangladesh batters Mominul Haque as well as Mushfiqur Rahim, with Bangladesh standing at 447 for 4 at the end of 111 overs as the hosts lead by 161 runs.
