The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have initiated a comprehensive second inspection of the Caribbean and USA venues in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event is scheduled from June 2 to June 30, 2024, and will mark a significant event in the cricket calendar.

Comprehensive review of pitches and facilities for T20 World Cup 2024 has begun

Starting on November 30 and set to conclude by December 15, this two-week review process is pivotal in evaluating the operational readiness of the chosen venues. The focus of the inspection includes critical aspects such as pitch conditions, outfield preparations, and media facilities, among others. This rigorous evaluation is integral to ensuring the venues meet the high standards set for an event of this magnitude.

Once the inspection and assessment phase is complete, the ICC will compile its observations and provide CWI with detailed feedback and any necessary recommendations for improvements.

The 2024 T20 World Cup, the ninth edition of this prestigious tournament, will feature 20 teams divided into four groups, competing in a total of 55 matches. This edition is particularly notable as it will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA, with the latter hosting an ICC tournament for the first time.

However, in a recent development, Dominica has withdrawn from its role as one of the host venues. Initially, the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica was chosen to host a group stage match and two Super 8 games.

The decision to withdraw came after it was revealed by the sports ministry of Dominica that the necessary infrastructure upgrades could not be completed within the required timeframe. Consequently, the decision was made to exclude Dominica from hosting any matches during the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“The implementation timelines submitted by various contractors revealed that it would not be possible to complete these works within the stipulated time frame. As a result, a decision was taken not to host any of the matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” said the Dominica sports ministry in a press release.
