The much-anticipated five-match Test series between India and England is just around the corner, kicking off Friday, June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. With Shubman Gill at the helm and senior pros like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having hung up their Test boots, it’s the dawn of a new era for Indian cricket.
Rishabh Pant Opens Up On Life Without Anderson-Broad
At a media interaction before the series opener, Rishabh Pant was asked if facing an England bowling unit without Anderson and Broad and without the Dukes ball came as a bit of a relief.
“Definitely, it feels so good when both of them are not there,” Pant replied with a chuckle.
“Coming from the last two tours, they have been there for England for so many years and I have only come for two tours.”
Rishabh Pant, who has dealt with England’s bowling heavyweights in the past, knows the value of their absence but he was quick to bring the conversation back to reality. The southpaw was quick to tip his hat to England’s fresh faces.
“But at the same time, they have enough ammunition as England’s bowling line-up. We don’t want to take anyone lightly because our team is also young. They are still looking to develop themselves. But at the same time, we got to play our cricket and respect the bowlers and opposition where it needs it.”
England’s bowling attack led by Chris Woakes will field a relatively green bowling attack featuring Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir.
Will Rishabh Pant Build On His Great Track Record In England?
Meanwhile, Pant himself has had decent success in England, racking up 556 runs in 9 Tests at an average of 32.70, including two tons and a couple of gritty fifties. He is one of the few in this current Indian squad who has had a taste of English conditions and knows how spicy they can be.
With a smile on his face and a challenge in front of him, Pant seems ready to embrace the new chapter. And if the chatter is anything to go by, he will be itching to do what he does best, smack bowlers out of their comfort zones.
