In the last few months, some of the stars of the Australian cricket like Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, have hung up their boots from the 50-over format. As the team is setting its sights on the upcoming big event, another all-rounder is looking forward to the twilight of his ODI career.

As the 2027 ODI World Cup is coming soon, teams are revamping their squad and Australia is also following the same way. Ahead of that, star all-rounder Tim David has made it clear he doesn’t see a return to the ODI squad in his future.

Is Tim David Walking Away From ODIs?

Alongside being an absolute beast in the Test format, Australia’s success in the 50-over format is worth inspiring. Fresh off their 2023 ODI World Cup triumph, the Aussies are now eyeing the 2027 edition, reshaping their squad to keep the legacy alive. As the preparation has already begun, Aussie all-rounder Tim David is not sure about his ODI comeback.

Even after being a beast in the game’s shortest format, his ODI career remained short. He played just a single match for Tasmania in the domestic One-Day Cup in 2021. Representing Australia in four ODIs, he scored 45 runs and secured only one wicket. As quoted by NDTV SPORTS, David opened up about his ODI future, as Australia navigates a transition phase.

“Definitely having conversations in the background with my coaches, and people that I want to talk to about my game at the moment. I'm not too sure, to be honest. It's not the immediate plan. We've got such a busy year, to be honest, leading up to this T20 World Cup,” he said.

“The winter actually looks quite different for me this year. Previously, I would have been away for four or five months in a row over the winter playing competitions. And now we've got so many T20 series that there's not much time to think about much else. So we'll see how that develops. But, at the moment, no plans,” he added.

After Australia’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, Steve Smith announced his retirement from ODIs, leaving a massive void in the squad. As the team prepares for the next high-stakes campaign, promising young talents are stepping up to carry forward the legacy and fill the giant shoes.
