Ace Indian spinner Deepti Sharma gained a rung to jump to number two position on the latest ICC rankings for women’s T20I bowlers. With 738 rating points, the cricketer is currently trailing Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal by eight points.
Sharma recently leapfrogged Australian fast bowler Annabel Sutherland through her exceptional wicket-taking spree in the ongoing T20I series against England.
Deepti Sharma On The Cusp Of Number 1 Ranking
Deepti Sharma has taken six wickets in three matches of the ongoing T20I series against hosts England. Starting out with a cunning spell of 2-32, the 27-year-old recently came up with fighting figures of 3-27 at The Oval.
Deepti’s latest run catapulted her to number two on the latest ICC T20I rankings for women’s bowlers, putting her above Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland by a couple of rating points.
Being the highest ranked Indian player on the list, the charismatic off-spinner is only trailing Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal (746 rating points) in the race for acquiring the number one spot on the latest ICC rankings, as published by the ICC on their official website.
Apart from Deepti Sharma, fast bowler speedster Renuka Singh Thakur at number six is the only other Indian player to feature in the top 10. England’s Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone retained their number four and number five positions respectively.
Pakistan’s Nashra Sandhu, Australia’s Georgia Wareham, West Indies’ Afy Fletcher and South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba all gained a rung each to occupy the final four positions to cap the top 10 charts.
Jemimah And Danni Wyatt Make Big Leap In Batting Charts
India’s Jemimah Rodrigues and England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge made a significant leap on the batting charts of ICC’s women’s T20I rankings. While Rodrigues gained two positions to rise to number 12 after cracking a match-winning 63 in Bristol last week, Danni jumped from 17 to 14 following her explosive 42-ball 66 in the series against India.
With two matches still left in the series, in-form players like Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Danni Wyatt-Hodge can further enhance their ICC rankings, giving the Indian bowling all-rounder enough time to even attain the number one status in the world.
